It is again my pleasure to write a foreword for a Scoutabout programme. It is also my privilege to be District Commissioner in this, the Seventy Fifth Anniversary Year of Scouting in the Chester District. In July we had the opportunity to camp together as a District as guests of our President, the Duke of Westminster, on the Eaton Estate. We had over one thousand two hundred people in camp and we were blessed with a fine weekend during which we worked, ate and played together as part of the Family of Scouts. There was a great sense of belonging, which comes when people are working together with a common aim. The aim in that case was simply to share in a birthday celebration activity together.
Again we have the chance to work together on the presentation of Scoutabout 1985. this is the Thirty Third show and a very strong tradition of Gang Show has been built up over the years. The common purpose of working together to "get the show on the road" is very much in keeping with our Scouting Commitment. A Gang Show provides the ideal opportunity for a group of people to pool their talents and resources in a good example of teamwork. I know that this year's show will be no exception. The Gang has worked hard at rehearsals to bring you another happy and sparkling production.
I thank all those who have been involved in any way with the show and I look forward to sharing with you, our guests, the fun of SCOUTABOUT 1985

I know how much hard work must go into organising successful theatrical performances, and that in order to maintain the high standard you have set yourselves in the past, your Gang Show will have required many hours of effort by all who have become involved with it. I am sure you will have another highly successful and enjoyable evening together, and I very much regret that I cannot be with you in person.
Good luck to you all, have a very happy Xmas and good prospects for 1986.

Congratulations to all of you for getting together once again to entertain other people. Giving your best as an individual and playing together as a team for the benefit of others is in the true spirit of Scouting.
Very best wishes for an outstanding Gang Show to mark your Anniversary year.

When we reflect upon the difficult times society has recently experienced, particularly with regard to the picture popular opinion would paint of present day youth, then it is with great pleasure that I commend you to Scoutabout.
This gang show illustrates qualities in young people we all can admire, ample evidence of the continuing influence of the Scout movement.
What you will enjoy tonight will not make headlines in the newspapers, but it is an aspect of youth that must continue to receive our wholehearted support.
On behalf of the Scoutabout Business Committee thank you for your presence here this evening and may you thoroughly enjoy the show.
T.S. COLLIER,
Chairman, Chester District
